How do i get to penn station in manhatten to go to hempstead longisland?

i want to take the train from the bronx to penn station in longisland and get to hempstead in nau county. is a train the fastest? i live on boston road in the bronx. and the 2 and 5 trains are near me. i wanna get to harold ave. is a bus faster?
